The Chassiron lighthouse

The Chassiron lighthouse is perched on a rocky cliff at the northern end of the island of Oléron, known as ‘Bout du Monde’, in the commune of Saint Denis d’Oléron.

At a height of 46 metres, you’ll need to climb the 224 steps to reach the circular balcony and enjoy a superb view of the island’s east coast and, beyond that, the famous Fort Boyard, then the islands of Ré, Aix, Madame, the Pertuis d’Antioche between Ré and Oléron, the ocean…

At the foot of the lighthouse, a circular garden in the shape of a compass rose has been laid out, exposed to the ocean spray.
