The Bird Marsh

To the delight of young and old alike, a visit to the Marais aux Oiseaux on the Ile d’Oléron gives you the chance to get up close to more than 500 animals of 60 different species.

The secret world of birds and marsh guests is revealed to you along an educational trail that you can follow at your own pace.

At the start of the visit, the educational mini-farm allows you to get up close and personal with many familiar animals (chickens, donkeys, goats, etc.). Then, on a footpath marked out with explanatory panels, you can observe the island’s wild birds in their natural environment from a specially-designed panoramic observatory.

The Marais aux Oiseaux is also a departmental wildlife centre where several hundred birds are cared for each year.
